Manual Handling Risk Assessment
Following the Manual Handling Operations Regulations 1992 and the Management of Health and Safety at Work Regulations 1999, UK law requires that; all employers must carry out a risk assessment for any manual handling tasks. The legislation requires that manual handling should be avoided as far as possible but if unavoidable, then the risk of injury must be reduced as far as reasonably practicable.
The employer’s duty is to ensure that a sufficient Manual Handling Risk Assessment has been carried out and that any issues identified in the assessment have been resolved and managed. In the event that an adequate Manual Handling Risk Assessment is not conducted, or does not comply with the Manual Handling Operations Regulations 1992 then the employer will be held responsible for any incidents that occur. These can have serious implications for the employer and the business and may result in heavy fines. To avoid musculoskeletal disorders and manual handling injuries at your workplace it is essential that you undertake a robust Manual Handling Risk Assessment.
